Join us in Olympia for CASA Advocacy Day!
February 13th, 2018
St. John’s Episcopal Church
114 20th Ave SE, Olympia, WA
9:30 – 4:00 PM
We need your help to explain to the legislature why CASA volunteers are a vital part of ensuring children’s best interests are heard in dependency!
Every year, WaCASA hosts Advocacy Day – a time to meet in Olympia and tell your policy and budget makers about what’s important to YOU! There are a number of critical issues being discussed in Olympia these days as it relates to children and families in care, including: the “new” Department of Children, Youth and Families, legal representation for children, parent-child visitation, dependency timeliness, foster home shortages, social worker turn-over, and many others. As someone with first hand field knowledge, many legislators will look to you for your opinion and perspective on these issues.
And…this events also serves as the culmination of our First Annual Shoe Drive for Foster Kids! We encourage you to bring NEW kids shoes (at least a pair…maybe more!) to be donated to foster kids statewide — and we’ll also be using these for an installation on the Capitol steps to illustrate the number of children in need of CASA Advocacy and to bring awareness to children in dependency.
What will the day look like?
9:30 – 11:15 — Meet at St John’s Episcopal Church for our morning program where we’ll cover current legislative topics and bills, provide materials for you to leave behind with your legislators, and discuss how to hold your meetings with your legislators.
11:15 – 12:00 — WaCASA will provide a light lunch.
12:00 — Walk to the Temple of Justice (it’s about a 10 – 15 minute walk from the church)
12:30 – 12:45 — Meeting with Chief Justice Fairhurst
1:00 – 1:30 — Rally on the Capitol Steps for Foster Kids
1:30 – 4:00 — Individual appointments with your legislators.
How do I sign up!?!
2. Next, register for the day to let us know you’ll be there. If you’re not sure how to make your appointments with your legislators, let us know, and we’ll make them for you!
3. Drop an email to email@example.com to let us know when and with whom you’ve scheduled appointments if you decide to make your appointments at a later date.
4. Then, join us in the morning of February 13th at St. John’s Episcopal Church for a morning program where we’ll discuss the current legislative environment and learn effective strategies on how and what to say your legislator.
